Jane weds John

I was trying to find a title for this blog post, so I said to ChatGPT: "Jokes time. What do you call a wedding between a Taita babe and a Luhya man?"

ChatGPT said: "A match made in ugali and viazi karai heaven! 🥘😂 When the Taita’s love for deliciously fried snacks meets the Luhya’s devotion to a hearty meal, you know that wedding reception is going to be lit! 🎉🍴"

... and it was lit. Well, not with ugali and viazi karai heaven, but lit with dance, song, hearty laughter and humility, but first, let's talk about the morning.

I was shooting this wedding solo, as a courtesy to a friend I made in this industry. There was someone else shooting the groom, while I shot the bride preparations in the morning.

The day started off with great things, of course, but I must first show you the wedding gown. Simple, and elegant enough for a humble couple. I shot this photo at the dining area. Had to move all furniture to set up the C-Stand and hang the gown over it. It was raining outside and I wasn't giving chances to trash the gown before the wedding even starts.

The location might be familiar to the residents of the likes of Utawala, Kenya. It was quite an overcast day, so the skies kind of got lost there. The sight is however something to write home about. See that open window at the first floor? That's the location of the bride.

Well, mornings, for brides, are about the make up and glamour. I'm not going to dwell on that, but here's a quick overview of the morning in pictures.

And the bride was ready! Ready for a day she patiently waited for. Ready to start a family. Ready to forge a partnership so strong, getting out of it would be unthinkable. And she showed it in glamour.

The groom was already waiting in church when we arrived. And it was raining. It's always like this in Africa. Or should I say in Kenya? The groom is always readier than the bride. Way faster, earlier, and probably more composed. You can dispute that in the comments section if you think otherwise ;-). Guy was so ready, he dawned a god-papa and mkwajo (walking stick).

And his story was just beginning. He is a dancer! He danced his way into the church to await the bride.

The bride braced the rain to meet the love of her life and make vows in the presence of her friends and family, in holy matrimony. She was accompanied by her parents and best lady.

Without much time wastage, the stage was set for receiving the bride.

Then the unveiling of the bride...

The exchange of vows...

The exchange of rings...

And finaly, the signing of the marriage certificate.

The photoshoot session was a breeze. We had fun.

To wrap this up, I have to share a picture of the cake cutting...

And of course, this one can't be forgotten. The way the bride knelt down to give the groom cake! I'm gonna follow up to hear if she still kneels.

If you're still here, you must have enjoyed the pictures. Leave a comment for the best destination photographer in Nairobi, Kenya and Africa, Mwarania GM.
