When I first got invited to be part of the Murima Digital Reality Show, I had no idea how much of an adventure it would turn out to be. I came on board in a commercial aspect and later as a film producer, but like most creative journeys, that title quickly expanded — I also found myself behind the camera as the show’s photographer.
And honestly? It is one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
In this episode of Murima Digital, Kamau Watoria, now a reformed blogger, narrates how he would get stories from different sources and post them in blogs and social media. Some were controversial that they put him in harms way. He was apprehended many times by security forces, which led to him fleeing out of the country with his family on exile.
Kamau Watoria narrates his story to his friends, the cast, all of whom have never heard the story before. Murima Digital isn’t just another show — it’s a story about six social media influencers from the mountain side. It’s about real people, real emotions, and real struggles, captured in a way that feels both raw and refreshing. From the very beginning, I could sense the energy around it. Everyone involved — from the cast to the crew — shared a vision to tell a Kenyan story that’s authentic, relatable, and impactful.
The story starts when with a simple discussion about the cast and team dynamics, then Kamau leads the team into the host's house and tells them his story as they make a meal. Eventually he introduces his friend, who helped him set up 'shop' away from destructive blogging. You have to watch this episode to appreciate it enough. It's never a dull moment at Murima Digital.
